Services

Annual eye and vision examinations are an important part of preventive health care. Many eye and vision problems have no obvious signs or symptoms. As a result, individuals are often unaware that problems exist. Early diagnosis and treatment of eye and vision problems are important for maintaining good vision and eye health, and when possible, preventing vision loss.

The One Stop Optometric Center

Specialty Contact Lenses - Keratoconus

For patients who have been unable to wear traditional soft contact lenses due to corneal disease, keratoconus or poor surgical outcomes, we can now fit them with specialty contact lenses that are custom designed and tailor made to the specifications ordered by our doctors. We now have the technology and different treatment options for patients who were told in the past that contact lenses were not an option for their eyes.

Myopia (Nearsightedness) Management Clinic

Myopia is a condition that is most associated with blurred vision at distance. It results when the length of the eyeball (axial length) is elongated. Increasing amounts of myopia do not only cause difficulty seeing. Myopia is also associated with an increase in sight threatening eye diseases such as myopic macular degeneration, cataract, glaucoma, retinal tears, holes and detachments.

Comprehensive Eye and Vision Exams

A comprehensive eye exam consists of much more than just a refraction (obtaining your spectacle prescription). We also check your eye muscle movements, pupillary reactions, eye curvature measurements, peripheral vision testing, glaucoma testing, external and internal evaluation of your eye health.

LASIK Co-Management

Are you wanting to reduce or eliminate your dependence on glasses or contact lenses? If so, LASIK or PRK may be for you. If you decide to proceed, we work with a highly respected local Corneal/Refractive Surgeon to ensure that you have the best outcome possible. We provide the pre-op exam and measurements along with the post-op care.

Optomap Ultra Wide Field Retinal Imaging

The optomap is a digital image of the retina produced by Optos scanning laser technology. It is the only technology that can capture 82% view of your retina at one time. Some of the first signs of diseases such as stroke, diabetes and even some cancers can be seen in your retina, often before you have other symptoms. An optomap makes it easier to see them.Unlike traditional retinal exams, the optomap image can be saved for future comparisons.

Contact Lens Exams

Along with all aspects of a comprehensive eye exam, we will also fit you with a contact lens based on the curvature and size of your eyes and we select a lens material that is most suited for each individual patient. We will include a contact lens training if you are a new wearer and all necessary follow up visits. We fit standard spherical contact lenses and also more complicated fits for astigmatism, presbyopia and rigid gas permeable lenses.

Medical Eye Exams

Our optometrists are trained and licensed to diagnose and treat diseases of the eye. We prescribe topical and oral medications for infections, inflammations, dry eyes, glaucoma and allergies. We are also trained to remove corneal foreign bodies, such as metal debris trapped on the surface of the eye while welding or cutting metal. We also work with top specialists in the area to make surgical referrals when necessary.

Pediatric Exams

Every child should have an eye exam BEFORE starting school. Knowledge of the alphabet by the child is not necessary for us to evaluate their eye health and vision. We have several methods of examining a child who does not respond well to traditional eye examination techniques.

What is myopia Control?

We can now slow or even stop myopia from progressing. This is accomplished with myopia control, a system of contact lenses and eye drops.

The prevalence of myopia is dramatically increasing worldwide. Recent studies estimate that on average 30% of the world is currently myopic and by 2050 almost 50% of the population will be myopic.

The doctors at Bakersfield Eye Care Optometric Center have been trained and certified for treatments to help limit the progression of your child’s increasing myopia.

Methods of Myopia Management

  • Orthokeratology (Corneal Reshaping Therapy)
  • MiSight FDA Approved Soft Contact Lens
  • Atropine Eye Drop Therapy

Meet our new addition: OCT

what is an OCT?

Ocular Coherence Tomography is an advanced eye scan for people of all ages. Similar to ultrasound, OCT uses light rather than sound waves to illustrate the different layers that make up the back of the eye. The major benefit of this state of the art machine is that it allows our optometrists to see both the back of your eye and a three-dimensional image to look beneath the surface of the retina.  Comparison of past and present OCT scans allows for monitoring of small changes over time.  For this reason, OCT testing has proved to be a vital tool when evaluating such conditions as glaucoma and macular changes.

Meet our new addition: Optos Daytona

what does it do?

The Optos Daytona produces a 200 degree single capture optomap retinal image of unrivaled clarity in less than 1/2 second. It is used for disease detection and management. Examples of conditions that it can help detect include retinal detachments, holes, tears, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, melanomas and many more.
