Dr. Krystal Vanichsarn (or “Dr. V”) was born in San Francisco and has spent a majority of her childhood in the Bay Area. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Irvine in 2010. Some of the highlights of her undergraduate experience were studying abroad in Japan, driving the shuttle buses, and volunteering at an Indian Reservation. After graduating, Dr. Vanichsarn discovered her passion for eye care after coordinating a vision service trip to provide glasses for over 400 orphans in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya. It soon led her to UC Berkeley, School of Optometry, where she earned her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2015.
Her education at UCBSO exposed her to a variety of community health clinics and VA clinics, where she became familiar and comfortable with ocular disease and medical eye care. Dr. Vanichsarn subsequently completed her residency training through the San Francisco Veterans’ Affair Hospital, where she gained extensive experience with eye care specialties including glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, cataracts, and neuro-ophthalmology. Seeing first-hand, the effects of untreated vision issues in adults has made Dr. Vanichsarn particularly passionate about making sure that children have the appropriate prescriptions and treatments necessary to allow them to succeed in school and later in life.
She enjoys seeing a variety of patients of all ages and strives to educate her patients and empower them to make the best decisions possible for protecting their ocular health and well being.
When Dr. Vanichsarn is not at work, she absolutely loves travelling. She has lived in Bakersfield with her husband since 2016 and loves the community they have made here in town. She is a new mom and her free time these days is exclusively spent reveling in quality time with her baby girl!
